The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup. His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session. The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight. The veteran ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver. Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
